Rainy Day Readers, ECW Book Club
7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Good Afternoon!

We had a wonderful time discussing Hidden Figures on Tuesday evening up at Ellen and Marty's home. This story about the African-American women working for NASA has only really come to light thanks to this book and the movie that was made from it. The movie is wonderful and we do plan on showing it at a movie night one evening this summer. The book however, goes much further into depth about segregation, those who fought it and those who refused to abide by the newly made laws to end it. If you haven't read it I highly recommend it!

We are also going to host a movie night in the parish hall to watch "Hidden Figures" which will be open to all.

Stay tuned for more details! Our next selection will be, A Story Like the Wind by Laurens Van Der Post. " Van der Post’s incomparable knowledge of Africa illuminates this epic novel, set near the Kalahari Desert, about a boy on the verge of manhood, his experiences with the wonder and mystery of a still-primitive land, and his secret friendship with the Bushman whose life he saves. The narrative of A Story like the Wind continues in A Far-Off Place." (description from Amazon page)

Meg and Linda S. have both read it and loved the writing and language used to really place the reader in the heart and soul of Africa.

Do to vacation schedules our next will be meeting on Thursday, August 2nd. We will meet at Linda M's house so that Pat Peyser is able to participate. Aaron will have a few in Levin & Co. in about a week and a half. It is also available on Amazon, and for those veering away from Amazon, eBay is another option. I didn't see that it is available on Kindle but those of you who use Kindle may be more clever than I!

all the best,

Linda

ECW ~~Episcopal Church Women

Mission Statement:

We, the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) join together to give spiritual and financial support to the membership of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Healdsburg, California. We meet in fellowship to communicate and coordinate projects that meet the needs of our church community. Through this fellowship we, as women of St. Paul’s, grow stronger in our love for one another and our service as women. Through this service, we show Christ’s love to others in our community.

Meetings:

ECW is open to all women of St. Paul’s. The monthly meeting is usually in the parish hall at 12:30 on the second Thursday of the month, although it sometimes changes to a member’s home or the third Thursday. Those planning to attend are asked to “r.s.v.p.” to the church office a day or two ahead so that the month’s hostesses know how many will be coming for the light lunch. The next meeting will be in the evening on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 5:30 pm. RSVP to 707-433-2107 by the Tuesday prior.

Retreats:

On October 19th and 20th we had an "Art" retreat at Bishop's Ranch. We talked, shared food, and learned how to make small altars for Our Lady of Guadalupe. These will be collected and displayed in the church during the celebration on December 12th and 13th.

Be sure to come to the fiesta celebrating Our Lady of Guadalupe, at 5 pm on
Saturday, December 13th. We will have a service, a procession, great food, and dancing.

Special Projects:

Parish Hall Floor

We did it!!  The ECW project fund from our Holiday Boutique along with our "Walk The Plank" donations paid to have the floor in the Parish Hall replaced. The new floor is Beautiful!!            Pictures will be posted.

Now, we need to raise money for more projects in the future.
