History

St. Paul’s Church is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California. Our mission is to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and to make him known. We share teaching, worship, and sacraments based on the Bible and the Book of Common Prayer. We are committed to serving and caring for the spiritual and physical needs of others.

History

Episcopalians gathered in private homes to found a new Healdsburg congregation in 1879. The first purpose-built structure for our church was the parish hall constructed in 1900.  This building included a lower story and was used for worship. This same building was then relocated to the corner, lost its lower story, and was reoriented to become the current church. The addition of stained glass windows, a small steeple, and wooden pews made it a spiritual home.  Additional buildings include our parish hall and the Vanderhurst.  The Vanerhurst was built as the residence for the former rector, The Rev. Marvin Bowers and his family and is now used by our current rector, The Rev. Sally H. Hubbell and her family.

St Paul’s enjoyed a burst of energy under the leadership of Canon Marvin Bowers who involved himself and the church community in many aspects of social outreach. These included the establishment of North County Community Services and the local ecumenical board, Healdsburg Shared Ministries. Rev. Marvin also translated his social work amongst migrant workers into the establishment of a weekly Spanish-language worship community. All of these continue to this day.

St Paul’s has faced many challenging issues over the years.  With each experience, we have grown stronger and improved the structure and governance of our church. Our parish continues its witness to a ministry based on biblical preaching, traditional worship and community outreach.

We are pleased and excited to announce that The Rev. Sally H. Hubbell has been appointed Priest in Charge of St. Paul’s Church.

We welcome you to come to our Sunday services so you can meet Mother Sally and find out how she is making a difference our community.  In addition, please join us at coffee hour immediately following each service so you can meet our family.  You will see first hand how the people of St. Paul's Church are committed to improving the lives of the people in Headlsburg and the surrounding communities.
